11th July 2007 Update PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ridzuan Ashim
Wednesday, 11 July 2007
I always start my updates by saying “Many things have been happening” because the truth is, I rarely do an update. Today is no different. But I’m going to list down some of the more prominent things that have transpired

1. Darren and Adrianna Join The Team
First and foremost, Darren Ho and Adrianna Tan are now working with me in XSMatter. Primarily the focus is on getting the foundations of VillageTalk up and pushing it to the next level. I suspect, however, we’ll be doing more than that in this half of the year…

2. ChillOuts become a regular affair
From July onwards, we’re fixing the last Friday of each odd month to be a Chillout day thus making it easier to predict and plan for. For this month’s details, head over to the events listing page.

I should be writing another piece to explain what exactly we’re trying to do through the ChillOuts so to put it briefly, it’s a session where people from all walks will come together to just informally get to know each other. You can talk about work, or life, or the latest movie. Heck, you could just sit and stare at the wall if you feel like it. The idea is to get to know people as people and have fun doing it! And in true Singapore style, food and drinks will always be close by…But we’re poor. So everyone pays for their own stuff. =)

3. Whollybooks does book reviews
The nice people from whollybooks have been doing some book reviews for us because I’m trying to create book club kind of thing. I’ve put some of their reviews in queue but do check out their site!

4. VillageTalk
With VillageTalk 1 being a success, we’re now moving on to plan for the September 07 Session themed, “Youthful Hearts, Passionate Minds”. We’re dropping the numerical approach because it’ll get very confusing in the long run. Details are still sketchy so do bear with us while we sort things out. I don’t want to give excuses and such, but I promise you that it’s going to be bigger and we’re looking to increase our manpower so that we can do the necessary follow-ups after each session. I will do an update once the VillageTalk site is fully operational.

5. Call for membership
With so many things happening, I’d like to urge you to get an XSMatter account so that we can disseminate information more efficiently. So if you’re reading this, do help us out by signing up for an account at the top of the page.

6. Shoutbox Goes Protected
Due to increasing spam, we’ve had no choice but to set it to registered users only. I don’t we want to constantly be reminded of how good Viagra or Vicodin is now do we? So…yet another perk to have membership =)

7. Got an event?
Do you have an event that you need to publicise? Do add them to our event listing. In fact, if you’d like us to do a feature of sorts about your event, do contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
