We’re probably very accustomed to going for parties, conferences and other social functions and while we’re perhaps dying for some “alone time”, it’s probably good to reflect what these functions really achieve.

Many people go to such events to network and while I agree this is important, I don’t intend to write about that today. Another day perhaps, or maybe you could write about that.

I think the other real value of such people-centric events is the fusion of ideas that happens. Like the saying goes, “Two heads are better than one.” I’m really glad to see more people coming into the blogosphere and actually interacting with one another both online and offline. We’ve got a flurry of twits flying around ranging from those with entertainment value to those which actually pose some real kickass questions about technology and how we’re harnessing it.

In Singapore, it’s nice to see events like BlogOut being organized to actually try to create some kind of real output from the blogosphere. I wrote once before about a Project Blogheart which was to be about creating an online movement to create sincere funds to certain charitable organizations. The fact that there was a charity fiasco at the time coupled with my lack of experience actually led to the shelving of that project(I’m really waiting for an opportunity to kickstart that one again).

Of course sometimes people say that all talk but no action is really pointless. And to that I agree. Yet, that itself brings up a question, “Have we become such a pragmatic society that only things with tangible results are worth talking about?” I think that might be for another day as well…But new ideas and new experiences being shared does lead to a heightened level of goals don’t you think?

How could we goal set when we never even had a dream or vision in the first place?
