People who haven't been to the E27 events have asked me why they should go since its very much a small scale, non-'pro' kind of events. While i'm so tempted to just tell them, "You have no idea what you're missing man..." but I figure it's perhaps better to identify 5 key elements of their events that make it worth going...even if you're not a techie-web2.0-entrepreneur kind of person. 1. Nerds, Geeks, Businessmen, Journalists, who else? I assure there’s a wide mix of people there. It ain’t just a simple student-get-student gathering to talk about how they get the A+ grade…In fact, you’ll meet people who’re vibrant and dynamic in not just their thoughts but their actions too! Be inspired by students who are starting up their own Web2.0 efforts or businesses. Be entertained by funny hosts(or sometimes it’s their lack thereof that makes it so). Be enriched by the thoughts of those who are already in the industries. Be part of this huge hotpot of people and ideas =) 2. Great place to bounce of ideas I’m really tired of talking to people about ideas and getting that static, “Orh. Sounds like a huge idea.” It’s great to be able to just meet people who take in your idea, process it and tell you why they think it works or what sort of problems you should be expecting. Better still…sometimes you’ll realize you can collaborate with them! 3. You go there to fit into your own agenda, not theirs. Because this is an unconference, the programme is participant driven. Which is great because you don’t have to fit into a structured plan for the day. Are you going there to just mingle? Are you there to find out who’s doing what? Learn about something new perhaps? Or are you just there to check out hot geek babes? You can do it all. Your choice. 4. You get to see some of the latest, upcoming ideas... At least in the local scene, it’s sometimes difficult to find out about young start-ups. There’s really a lack of media attention on these guys. So here’s the one place where you can see things happening. Think of it as an underground rebel movement…Purely legal of course. 5. It's Exciting! It's Unpredictable! Going for the previous e27 unconference, they had a talk about trying to find a definition for Web2.0. In the process they realized that many people didn’t know what it was! So guess what? They simply spin off sessions that ran with their main programme to educate people about web2.0! So…if someone has a bright idea that he wants to share with everyone right smack in the middle of the event, he just has to set up shop in some empty space and he’s good to go! 6. There's Food and Drinks! Ok, great. I know I said 5 reasons…but you simply have to admit - mingling and listening to presentations with free food and drinks is something you have to come for! So there you go...that's why I think you should go for it... And if anyone has any other reasons, why not start an entry on your blog and tell people about it? You Are The Media.
